FIKKIA Students Empower Kertosari PKK Mothers Through Digital Health Literacy

FIKKIA NEWS – The rapid flow of social media information that continues to circulate makes the ability to sort valid health information very important. For housewives, the role as the front guard in maintaining family health must have that ability. In response to this, a group of students from the Public Health Study Program, Faculty of Health Sciences and Natural Sciences (FIKKIA) Airlangga University (UNAIR) Banyuwangi initiated an activity entitled "Digital Health Literacy for Housewives.” The activity was successfully carried out on Thursday, (15/May/2025) with the PKK mothers of Kertosari Village, Banyuwangi.

The activity involved four fourth-semester students, namely Aqila Fawziya Mustafa, Bryna Wahyu Candra Dewi, Agil Pamungkas, and Liny Fasisca. Taking place at the home of one of the residents, Mrs. Rosidah, the activity took place interactively and full of enthusiasm. Support also came from the local RT Head who provided space and time for the students to share knowledge.

Present Workshops and Training

Students carry out a series of activities including workshop introduction to health hoaxes, simulation of searching for information from trusted sources, and training in creating simple educational content. Participants can learn about this by getting practical guidance through brochures and short modules. The content includes important steps. Namely using specific keywords, comparing information from various sources, checking the date of publication of information, and recognizing verified health sources and applications. One participant said that he is now more confident in filtering health information that he finds on the internet.

"I now know to look for information from official sites, and if in doubt, can check health applications such as SatuSehat or Halodoc. The brochures are also easy to understand," he said.

In addition to delivering the material, participants also practiced creating simple educational content that could be shared with fellow housewives. This aims to ensure that they are not only recipients of information, but also empowered educational agents in their respective environments. With a communicative and practice-based approach, this activity is expected to be the first step in improving digital health literacy at the family level. The students hope that similar activities can be continued and developed in other community groups.

Aqila Fawziya and her team would like to thank the Kertosari PKK mothers for their participation and burning enthusiasm for learning. Thanks are also due to the RT Head for his full support and facilitation of the venue, as well as to Mrs. Rosidah who was willing to be the host. Aqila hopes that this opportunity will provide sustainable benefits and be a small step towards a more digitally literate society in responding to health issues.
